Academics & Curriculum

Academics

Our students go on to become proud graduates, attending a variety of high schools that span across Greater Cincinnati. Our students from the class of 2022 attend the following high schools: Badin, Fenwick, Lakota East, LaSalle, Mercy McAuley, Moeller, Mount Notre Dame, Princeton, Purcell Marian, Roger Bacon, St. Ursula Academy, St. Xavier, and Ursuline Academy.

We believe that setting a clear guide for our students is just one way that leads to their success. Each year, our teachers present the upcoming year's academic plan of action at our Curriculum Night so that our students and their families are aware of the expectations and goals of the year. We have shared these presentations below for your reference throughout the school year.

Special Curriculum

|     ACCELERATED READER
Students in grades 2-8 have over 126,000 book choices in this program.  After reading the book, the students take a computer-generated test, which helps determine their reading grade.  Trimester goals are set in each grade.  The computer lab is open 3 days during the summer to take AR tests.

|     ALGEBRA
An Algebra1 class is offered to 8th grade students based on an aptitude test given in the spring of 7th grade.  High school credit may be earned through our partnership with Roger Bacon High School.

|     ART
Students in grades K-8 have art class with an art teacher once a week. Grades are given for this class.

|     BAND
Students in grades 4-8 have the opportunity to register for an instructional band program.  Band is directed by an outside instructor for both beginner and advanced band on Friday afternoons. There is a fee paid to The Music Staff in order to participate. For more information about the band program, go to www.musicstaffbeat.com/.

|     COMPUTERS
All students attend computer lab at least once a week.  Interactive SMART boards are used regularly in all classrooms. We have a junior high 1:1 laptop program for 7th and 8th grade students as well as classroom sets of iPads or laptops for grades K-6.

|     JUNIOR HIGH ELECTIVE
Each 7th and 8th grade student has the opportunity to choose an elective each semester. Students have a choice of an extra weekly class in music, art, gym, STEM, or technology.

|     LIBRARY
All students have the opportunity to go to the Library each week.  Our librarian is available to help match students with books that are at their reading and interest level.

|     MUSIC

All students in grades K-6 attend music class twice a week; grades 7-8 once a week.  Students in grade K-4 perform choral programs on special occasions such as Christmas or Grandparents’ Day.  Grades are given for this class.

|     PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All students have gym class with a Physical Education teacher twice a week.  Grades are given for this class.

|     SPANISH
All students in grades K-6 receive instruction in Spanish one day a week.  This program enriches the language arts program through age appropriate activities and, on occasion, a Spanish assignment is given for credit in other subjects at the 5th – 8th grade level.
