All About P.T.O.
|
The handbook contains brief explanations of programs and services that PTO provides. Its purpose is to familiarize parents with the PTO.

|
Birthday Book
|
All students are sent a birthday card (via the Thursday Envelope) on behalf of the PTO. Children with summer birthdays are sent cards on their half birthday.
Inside the card, students are invited to purchase a book (minimum $5) to
donate to the school library. Students choose from a special collection of books that are available at school. Upon purchase, students may be the first to read the book and his/her
name is listed inside as the donor.

Boxtops for Education
|
Parents can clip and save "Boxtops for Education" logos from General Mills products (cereals, Betty Crocker products, etc.). Labels can be sent to school in an envelope marked "Boxtops." We receive money for each label we redeem. The more we send in the more we earn!

Bulletin Board
|
The PTO Bulletin Board is located on the right wall of the flag door entrance as you come into the building. PTO news, events, and meetings are posted here.

|
Cafeteria Volunteers
|
Two parents help serve meals to gr. K-8 during regular lunch hours 11:15-12:45). Helpers may request to work
a certain day of the week and are scheduled to work 4-5 days a year. Due to the fact that you'll be working with hot food, please do not bring young children.

Campbell's Labels
|
Campbell's labels are collected all year. The more we send in, the more credit we earn to receive school equipment
and supplies. PTO does not earn money from this program, instead labels are traded in for school goods.

|
Catholic Identity
|
Committee that fosters Catholic values and enriches students in their Catholic heritage. In the past, they have distributed holy cards, candies on Saints' Feast
days, posted good deeds done by students, etc.
|
|
Community Relations
|
This committee continues to broaden the exposure of St. Gabriel Consolidated student/faculty/parent accomplishments
within the context of academic and athletic areas to the surrounding communities. To achieve this parents are needed to write articles, take or collect photographs, and submit these to
the Community Relations Committee for publication.

Cougars' Night Out
|
Evening of fundraising and fun for the adult SGCS community.
It is our
most profitable fundraiser.
|
|
Everybody Counts
|
Program designed to teach children about various disabilities. Each grade level learns about one specific disability.
Parent volunteers teach the children about disabilities such as blindness, hearing impairment, developmental handicaps, motor and orthopedic
handicaps, learning disabilities, chronic conditions and serious illness. The children have the opportunity to not only learn more about these
specific disabilities, but also about people who, although disabled, have become famous and achieved success. Many grade levels will have a follow-up speaker who will share their life experiences
with the children. The program takes place in March.

Funfest
|
An all-school fun day for students and their families held the last Friday before school is out for the
summer. It begins with an outdoor all-school mass followed by various field games organized and played by grade
level. Numerous parent volunteers help make this event a success.

|
Hospitality Committee
|
This committee organizes the "Welcome
Mornings" in August along with four teacher
luncheons throughout the year. Volunteers are
needed to donate food, serve meals and clean-up
after the events.

|
Junior High Plays
|
The 8th grade class presents a play in the fall every year. The 7th
grade class performs a play in the spring.
|
|
M & M Sale
|
The first fundraiser that all students will be invited to participate in. It
will start in September and last for two weeks. Participating students choose the quantity of candy they'd like to sell.
|
|
Market Day
|
An ongoing monthly fundraiser in which the PTO earns a percentage of money from orders placed from the delicious selection of
food including entrees and side dishes to snacks and desserts. Parent volunteers help to
fill orders.
|
|
Mentor Family Program
|
This program is meant to help families new to the school become familiar with school policies, programs and procedures.
New families are paired with more experienced families who can answer questions and help them learn more about the school.
|
|
Pawprints
|
PTO newsletter published during most months there is not a PTO meeting, approximately 6 times a year.
|
|
P.T.O. Directory
|
Publication contains class lists, the PTO Calendar of Events, and names, addresses, and phone numbers of SGCS
families-among other useful information.
|
|
P.T.O. Greeters/Split the Pot
|
At PTO meetings, a greeter will make sure you have the handouts for the meeting and ask you the names of your children's teachers. Split the Pot tickets are also sold at the greeter table.
During the meeting a drawing is held, and the winning ticket
holder splits the "pot" with the teacher who had the highest parent
attendance count.

P.T.O. Meetings/Hospitality
|
The room parents of 2-3 grade levels each contact a few parents to donate snacks or baked goods.
|
|
Room Parents
|
A group of approximately 6 parents, led by one called the team leader, who assists in the classroom during holiday parties
and other events.
|
|
School Supply Sale
|
This sale makes buying school supplies a cinch and earns money for PTO at the same time!
|
|
SGCS Advisory Commission Representative
|
This representative is usually an Advisory Commission
member. This representative gives us updates on the happenings of the Advisory Commission.
The Advisory Commission is made up of parent representatives from the 5
parishes. They advise the pastors on decisions made concerning the school budget, facilities, policies, etc.

|
SCRIP
|
A gift certificate program where 2-25% of money spent on gift certificates comes back to PTO.
|
|
Sunshine Committee
|
Spreads get well wishes, bereavement, new baby, or "great happenings" with calls, notes, dinners, or other
means of help or joy.
|
|
Teacher Meetings Hospitality
|
As a way to welcome teachers back to school, the PTO Board hosts a breakfast and lunch for the teachers
during their August teacher meetings.
|
|
Tyson Project A+
|
Parents can clip and save the "Project A+" labels from the side panels of Tyson chicken products.
Labels can be sent to school throughout the year in an envelope marked "Tyson labels. We receive
24 cents for each label we redeem.
